For me it was my second ever U2 concert. The first one was Zoo Tv in Lisbon, too. This one was much better, the sound was great, the stage is magnificent, and the band....Well, the band was miles away from the 1993 one. You could see the joy and the pleasure in their faces. Bono was on fire, he jumped he talked he joked, he even got time to shout with a guy in the audience who was shining a laser pointer in his eyes. The songs sounded great especially "Miami" with a very powerful version. When the show started the crowd went wild, when "I Will Follow" turned up on the PA everybody was singing along. That atmosphere went on the whole concert. "Desire" was played for the first time in this tour, Bono said "this is a song we didn't play for a long time but tonight it feels great" he was enjoying it. Before that we could hear some bits of Bad during All I Want Is You. The end with "Wake Up Dead Man" was a perfect one. Very smooth very heartfelt, everybody in silence and Bono's voice was all around the air. I went home feeling like an angel in the supermarket.

U2:Rotterdam 19 juli 1997 and Werchter 25 juli 1997

Hi, My name is Karin Patelski and I'm living in the Netherlands This year was the first time I visited a U2 concert.

After to be an U2 fan for about ten years my dream came true. The concert was really great and I had an excellent view nearby the catwalk. The moment we were taking pictures of the band while they were playing on the catwalk Larry smiled at us. So great!!! The music and show was real hot. It Kicks asses !!!

After the concert was done we decided to go the Belgium and visit another PoP concert,so we could feel the magic again, and yes we did!! In Belgium my view at first wasn't so good but due to all that pushing I ended on the third row in front of the catwalk. So close !! While Bono was singing on the catwalk I had eyecontact with him for a few minutes. WOW !!!

My opinion is that they are the BEST live performing band on earth. the prove of that is the MTV award for best live band. Well done boys!!!

Greatings Karin

U2 in Reggio Emilia, Italy, Sept 20

Hello!
I was one of the 150.000 people in Reggio Emilia on Sept. 20th and I suppose the show was great, if only I could have been closer.....or at least seen the stage!

Pop stars should remember that such a crowd unable most of the people to really enjoy and partecipate but thank god the megascreen worked!!! It was the third U2 concert I saw in my life and I really love the band but after all the money I payed I feel a slight sense of bitterness

Bye-bye
Sabrina

Review for U2 in Dublin, August 30

I went to the U2 concert in Dublin on August 30th. I had my tickets for months at this stage, and was looking forward to my third U2 concert, having attended both the Joshua tour and ZOO TV. It was a glorious day weather wise (unusual for Eire!). I got into the stadium about half an hour before they started which was at 8:50pm. I was sitting in the stand just to the left of the stage and could see them getting ready to do their spectacular entrance. Once I heard the first strains of PopMusik I knew that the time had come. Everyone in the ground, which was absolutely packed at this stage, went mental as the fab four made their way to the stage. Bono stopped as he mounted the "runway" and just stood their for 5 minutes with his hands in the air. Dublin's favorite son had returned.

They then played their usual playlist. One thing I did note throughout the concert was how "up for it" the band looked. You could see from the "screen" how much they seemed to be enjoying themselves. They really and truly gave it all for this gig. Bono made many remarks throughout the concert, the most notable which were.... "Look what we brought ye back from Vegas" - pointing to the stage....."We better keep the noise down, or they'll kick us out"- reference to the Dublin concert controversy.....Also, the Edge sang Dana's (Dana won the Eurovision Song Contest for Eire many years back, and is currently running for President in the Elections!! I SWEAR!!!) "All kinds of Everthing", karoke style...saying that it could be our new national anthem in a few months time. They finally finished with "One", dedicated to Bill Whelan, at 10:55, as the law in his country states that outdoor concerts MUST finish before 11pm.

Everyone I have talked to that was at he concert said it was the best thing ever!! Although, we all know that U2 could play on just a bare stage, and they would still put on the best concert ever!!!!!!! I think that this tour confirms their status as THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD, without question!!!!!!

Well there you go,
Barry

U2 in Paris

As I already said , U2 was not performing in Switzerland ... so U2 Swiss fans had to travel a bit. Yesterday night U2 was performing in Paris at the Parc des Princes ... and what a show!!! There was about 55 000 places and the tickets were sold out about three months before the gig. The show began at 9.30 pm in front of fans on fire ... And the show went on with so good music , just like in Helsinki. After the encore , Bono dedicated the so famous song "one" in memory of the Princess Diana , saying that "there should be peace between Ireland and England" and the show finished in a peaceful and love spirit ... After the show U2 returned at their hotel , the "Royal Monceau" where they signed some autographes to their fans and then disappeared ... Once more , yesterday night , they confirmed that they were the best band in the world!

U2 in Roundhay Park, Leeds

This was the best U2 show I've see, and was better than the London shows. The band were in the mood for it and even after a thunder storm the crowed was to. The best bit of all was when we all sang 'Singing in the rain' with Edge (gladly it had stopped raining by then). Also the played a blinder Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me.

The set list was:
Pop Muzik
Mofo
I Will Follow
Gone
Even Better Than The Real Thing
Last Night On Earth
Untill The End Of The World
New Years Day
Pride
I Still Haven't Found What Im Looking For
All I Want Is You
Staring At The Sun
Singing In The Rain (Karaoke with Edge)
Miami
Bullet The Blue Sky
Please
Where The Streets Have No Name
Discotheque
If You Ever Wear That Velvet Dress
With Or Without You
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Mysterious Ways
One
And an extra one at the end by the hole band which I think was a Beatles song.

BIG IN OSLO
August 6th, 1997

As always expectations were high when I went to see U2. I have seen them twice before. In Gothenburg in '91, the indoor leg of the Zoo-Tv tour, and in Oslo in '93 during the Zooropa tour.

On this day, the 6th of August, I went early to the show because of increasing my chances of a nice spot. This plan failed. But when the gates opened I managed to get inside the pit in front of the main stage. However that place was already crowded with people, so I finally ended up just next to the mixing-desk and the VIP-tribune. At first this seemed like an excellent idea, but as the show started, the crowd got a great deal mor dense, and I couldn't see anything of the show. The visiual bits I got from the show came to me via monitors in the mixing-tent. The most exciting thing here was Paul McGuinnes standing right next to me on the VIP-stand.

The show: Ms classic «Pop Muzik» introducing the band
Mofo
I Will Follow
Gone
Even Better Than The Real Thing
Last Night On Earth
Until The End Of The World
New Year’s Day
Pride (In The Name Of Love)
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
All I Want Is You
Staring At The Sun (unplugged, The Edge and Bono)
Karaoke for The Edge - The Monkees’ «Daydream Believer»
Miami
Please
Where The Streets Have No Name (extra)
Discotheque
If You Ever Wear That Velvet Dress
With Or Without You
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Mysterious Ways
One
Mystery Girl (Roy Orbison)-A little bonus sung by bono alone

The opening with U2 cutting trough the crowd is shown on the BIG screen and is in fact very cool. Bono pretends to be a boxer, doing different moves. Like a "Rocky"-incarnation. Then they kick into "MoFo", and the
crowd goes bananas. In spite of this there is a slight feeling of disappointment on the crowd. It just doesn't kick ass like on the record. This is the problem with all the new songs up to "Miami". The old songs get the same response as ever. People singing along, getting a look back at the U2 they once knew.

"MIAMI"-my mammy. This is where the show really blasts me into dimentions i didn't know excicted. It is the definite highlight of the show. A heavy, rough and loud version done in a "Bullet The Blue Sky"-kind-of-way. YES...

"Please" is done beatifully. It is a very powerful song. It really gets to you and brings you down. A good feeling. A nice moment.

"Where The Streets Have No Name"- Not a convicing performance. It doesn't contain the energy as it usually does have. But still a nice song, though.

"DISCOTHEQUE"- This is where the BIG SCREW-UP happens. The DiscoLemon refuses to open, leaving the band stuck in ther own lemon.( Ooppss!!! There's a person out of a job.)They manages to get out of the lemon
while the belly-dancer keeps dancing on the screen, and kicks into a very cool version of D-d-discotheque.

"She's a Mystery To Me"- this is a song Bono wrote to Roy Orbision. It has never been performed live before. But I guess it was his way of saying "I'm sorry about the lemon-incident".

It is all over. I have a bought a green t-shirt, a pin and a program. I am not in the mood for going out to all the U2-parties tonight. I go straight home with a little sense of disappointment. It was not a very intimate concert. ZOO-TV was like making out with the band compared to this. Bono has told us "I'm not coming down", I just hope he changes his mind

Yours sincerely
Per Erik

Pop-Mart 97, Copenhagen the 4th of August

Like every place else it was the event of the year when the rock n' roll cirkus we know as pop mart hit the city. Maby the hype coulndt reach the peak of Zoo Tv but we all knew that the boys were back in town. Its exactly 10 years ago I got addicted to U2 - With or without you, The Joshua Tree and I was hooked. But it was not until 1991 I saw them live. I had to go to Gotenburg, Sweden to see the indoor leg of Zoo Tv. Two years later U2 played for the first time in Denmark since The Roskilde Festival in 82.

So with two Zoo Tv shows in mind I looked forward to experience POP-MART. I didn't know what to expect because of the mixed reviews the tour had got, so I went without the highest expectations. A band called Audieweb kicked the show off, but it rained, so I stuck to the Carlsberg in the stadiums lobby. It was first when Howie B hit the stage I went out to find a good spot on the field. I wanted to come near the B-stage, but sadly it wasn't possible because of the pit the band used at the opening of the show.

But what a opening. The band cut through the crowd just a few feet from where I was standing. That was the last time I saw them in lifesize. Either they were wery small on the stage or blown out of porportions on the
"biggest tv in the world" as the papers called the jumbotron monitor. The intro (popmusic) went into Mofo followed by I will follow and so on. I was surprised that they played New years day, and not Do you feel loved
from POP. Unlike many, I would have liked more songs from the new record, but then again it was fantastic to hear 47.000 people singing along to Pride or I still havent found.

The climax of the show was the acoustic version of Staring at the sun, with The Egde and Bono on the B-stage. Hold me thrill me... kicked ass and with or without you and one were just great to hear again. The images on the screen were great apart from the live fotage. But the animations of Roy Lichenstein and Keith Harrings pop art was fascinating. It gave the music a whole new dimention.

I think the Zoo Tv show was a greater show, but the music was better here. And, as far as I'm concerned, its about the music. So thumbs up for PopMart.
.....
After the concert Bono, Adam and The Egde joined Helena Christensen (the famous danish supermodel) for a late night dinner for 30-40 danish and Irish people in the center of Copenhagen. As far as the tabloids reports they had a great time that night, and so did the rest of us.

U2 in Rotterdam, July 18th 1997

I have seen several U2 concerts over the years. I absolutely felt that Popmart was the best one yet. I particularly enjoyed the well-chosen mixture of old songs as well as new material. The guys seemed very focused and appeared to be having lots of fun. The concert was completely sold out, by the way (!). Just a shame that they chose Skunk Anansie for their opening act...

U2 in Rotterdam

It was a big wish of me to see U2. After when I got tickets I heard a lot of negative things of the show, so I went to Rotterdam, we got a lot of rain but when U2 started playing it was dry. And my meaning of that show it was great.
